The Summer Retreat Pool
Our designer started this project the way Tepe Landscape & Design Group starts every large outdoor living build — by understanding how the homeowners actually use their backyard, not just what features they want in it.
This family entertains. Frequently. That single fact shaped every decision in the design. The pool house pavilion is oversized because it needs to seat a crowd. The pool has an organic shape because curves create more edge seating and deck space than a rectangle. The sun shelf exists because half the people at a pool party aren’t swimming — they’re sitting. The kitchen is under the pavilion because the cook shouldn’t be separated from the group. The fireplace is wide because it needs to heat a gathering, not just look good.
The terraced patio layout solves a different problem: scale. A backyard this large can feel empty if the hardscape is one flat plane. By splitting the space into an upper and lower level, the design creates two zones that each feel appropriately sized — the upper patio is cozy enough for a weeknight family dinner, and the lower deck is open enough for a full party around the pool.
