Landscaping Company in Mariemont, OH
Mariemont was designed from the ground up as a community where the landscape matters. The tree-lined streets, radiating avenues, curvilinear lanes, and integrated parks that John Nolen planned in the 1920s set a standard that every property in the village carries forward today. Landscaping here isn’t just maintenance — it’s stewardship of a National Historic Landmark. Tepe Landscape & Design Group has been designing and building landscapes across Cincinnati’s east side since 1980, and we understand what Mariemont properties demand.
Our landscape design and installation services in Mariemont work within the village’s architectural character while giving homeowners the outdoor spaces they want. We design foundation plantings scaled to Colonial Revival, Tudor Revival, and English Cottage facades — layered beds with evergreen structure, flowering shrubs, and perennial color that complement the home’s period and proportions. Privacy hedging and border plantings define property lines on Mariemont’s tighter lot configurations without overwhelming the streetscape. Specimen tree placement adds canopy, shade, and seasonal interest. For homeowners with rear yards that face the village’s parks or greenways, we design patios, pergolas, fire features, and planting plans that take advantage of the setting — creating private outdoor rooms that connect to the broader landscape Nolen envisioned.

Hardscaping and patio installation in Mariemont calls for material choices that honor the village’s aesthetic. We design and install patios in natural flagstone, brick, and select pavers that complement the warm tones and textures of Mariemont’s architecture — not generic suburban concrete. Walkways from the front entry to the sidewalk, from the back door to the patio, and through garden areas are designed as landscape features in their own right.
Low retaining walls and raised planting beds add structure and definition on properties where the terrain shifts. Every hardscape element is built with proper base preparation and drainage to perform long-term.
A professionally designed lawn sprinkler and irrigation system keeps Mariemont landscapes healthy and consistent through the summer. We design zone-specific systems with smart controllers and rain sensors — matching coverage to sun exposure, mature canopy shade, and plant material across the property. Drip irrigation in garden beds and foundation plantings delivers targeted water without overspray onto walkways, facades, or neighboring properties — an important consideration on Mariemont’s compact lots.
Mariemont exists because one person decided a community could be planned to produce, in John Nolen’s words, “local happiness.” In 1923, Cincinnati philanthropist Mary Emery broke ground on a new village designed by Nolen — one of America’s most influential town planners — on farmland along the Little Miami River, ten miles east of downtown. Nolen’s plan called for tree-lined avenues radiating from a central square, curving residential streets that followed the natural terrain, integrated parks and greenways, and architect-designed homes in styles ranging from Tudor Revival and Colonial Revival to English Cottage and Art Deco. Twenty-five of the country’s leading architects contributed building designs.
